Holy Mole

So I got my first Comme des Garçons blouse. It was a very spiritual experience opening up the wrapping and pulling it out. It’s everything I wanted and more. It’s super old although I don’t know it’s vintage (i’m guessing 90’s) oh so cute. My friend and fashion stylist confidante saw this true treasure on etsy and texted me “there is CDG on etsy for 60 dollars get it,” and I did faster than Domino’s can deliver a pizza, which is, if I remember from a few weeks ago pretty fast. 

Soooooo cute. A weird, not-repetitive tie-dye-y pattern, idk, paint splatter, something print that I love love love. Ugh… I wore it this morning to the orientation for Portland Fashion Week, for which I am working backstage (sooooo excited!). Weeeee! Things are lookin’ up!

Fashion Overload

The Spring shows are here blah blah blah Paris woooot! I guess i’ll just start it off: Hussein left me speechless. Literally speechless. Maybe because I was stoned as fuck off or a gazillion bong rips at 4 in the morning, but his latest spring collection left me breathless. Clearly Hussein is a genius, and has a serious cult following that I align myself to, but it’s amazing how he is able to constantly move forward, always advancing in innovation and craftsmanship, I think it’s truly a rare gift to be able to successfully and confidently (or in his case quietly) walk in a straight line. How he has gone so long being so underrated to me is a baffling sin. Anyway, me, sitting on my ass, speechless, stoned as a mother, and here’s why; His collection did, imo, start off a LITTLE Eileen Fischer-y, just like mature chic which is cool but like hmm… whatever. Then shit got real:

Clearly he is known for his minimal work, structure, innovative presentation, etc., but I think an area where he can truly shine as a craftsman manifests itself in his use of color and draping. It’s just, well, really striking. Um, to me. There was more to be had of course. Not to be trend driven by any means, that floral-y sheer-y cut-out/insert-y thing happening all over fashion/retail (and my closet/body) appeared here, to but in almost dream-like intangible ways that I am HOOKED on lolz:

And of course the fact that he was the waiter serving all the models drinks (unbeknownst probably to almost every guest at his show) was humble and super cute. 

Yohji showed too (YES!) and and Maison Martin Margiela of course I ravaged images immediately and… it breaks my heart to say this, but I was truly underwhelmed by both of them. Of course, they are and will always be better than almost any of their peers and any moment of the day, and as a loyal follower I am almost never bored or disappointed but I kinda was. I wasn’t really a fan of that romantic French revolutionary-esque thing Yohji showed. I was like “what? um whatever,” but I will say that I was head over heels for coats presented by both YY and MMM:

*side note, although I was truly uninspired by his latest effort, the opening with the huge hat reminded me of his show stopping finale a couple years back when the dudes had to carry out that HUGE hats with rods at every corner, so that was kinda nostalgic/cool

Uh… I guess that all i’ve really been scouring. Jil Sander rocks, duh, I was a little bored by Rodarte, not interested in most of the fashion heavy hitters this Spring, but there is no surprise there. I’m about go to check out the pics from Junya’s show (holy mama I am stoked), Tsumori, Haider, Viktor & Rolf,  and counting the seconds when CDG shows. WEEEEEE!

These are Simone Rocha’s line, which is sold under john Rocha or at his store or something I don’t fucking know okay! All I know is I need these shoes. The white ones or the black ones I haven’t decided which I would rather fantasize myself in. They are 595 euros which may as well be a million dollars… But to be honest I do have a plan. I’m getting my student loans soon… 

They are sold next door to the CDG Dover store too (or something). Kinda neat.

“Witch is the new diva”

I thought this quote was appropriate for what follows, and semi segways the the last text post title of mine. (Also segways was underlined as incorrect?!)

This quote arose when I was super drunk with Ada and we were watching Hocus Pocus on her new, vintage, awesome couch. We could not stop referring to Winnifred as a diva, and suddenly we said in unison “Witch is the new DIVA!” Needless to say we had a ball.

I’m really pissed off by commercialism. In the break room of my job, we get newsletters from the company, and they send us new clothes based on current trends. A part of the letter said “we;re so excited to bring you guys the trends you’ve been asking for, including all those satanic trends!” They were of course referring to the inverted cross. As soon as I read that I was like… idk I was like WTF.

Clearly I don’t care if someone is a satanist, but how in the world has this iconography gone from being exclusively worn by these people:

I HIGHLY doubt that she is familiar with the Martyrdom of Peter, the little story about how Saint. Peter was hung upside down, thus solidifying this image as a religious symbol until further notice (aka people stop giving a fuck about the meaning behind symbols and just think they’re kewl looking). Ugh. I hate trends and everyone HAHAHA!!

And don’t eve get me started on the Navajo print trend. Just the fact that they refer to ALL of those Pendlyton-y prints as NAVAJO is annoying enough, as if there was only ONE Native American tribe making ONE kind of fabric.

I just find the new embrace of traditional/cultural as new and trendy weird, ironic, and kinda gross. Especially this one. During colonization of the west, white asshole violently and strategically tried to force the Natives from stopping their own lifestyle (including weaving fabrics that symbolized aspects of their culture specific to their tribe) and gave them whiskey, resulting in a true cycle of morbidity that occurs today. (I lived 10 minutes away from a reservation so I know my ish.) Growing up, i’ve seen old ass Native women wearing these prints on huge bomber jackets, and it was NOT fashionable. But it was them, in there reservation, that they made by hand, and they know why. But not it pops up in Urban fucking Outfitters. UGH I’m so mad at 8:43 in the morning. Gotta get ready for work.
